"Men of Harlech, stand ye ready!"
Established in 2006, the British Army's Royal Welsh is as the name implies, distinctly "Welsh". It perpetuates the legacies of the several units, including the Welsh Regiment, Welsh Fusiliers and the South Wales Borderers. The pre-Childers reform South Wales Borderers existed as the 24th Regiment of Foot, which famously were the men who fought at the Battle of Rourke's Drift during the Anglo-Zulu Wars in 1879. Their actions during that onslaught resulted on the most Victoria Crosses ever awarded for a single battle, and was later immortalized in the 1964 film "Zulu".
The Royal Welsh of today's British Army are fully prepared to continue to serve ("Ich Dien" literally meaning "I serve") and honour the legacy of those who came before them!
