"ALAAAAAAAARM!"
The distinctive "Laughing Sawfish" was originally painted in green on the side of Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock's U-96 during the Second World War. It was later applied as the insignia of the 9th U-Boat Flotilla when Lehmann-Willenbrock took command of the unit, until the end of the war. U-96 is perhaps best remembered for Lothar-Günther Buchheim's 1973 novel "Das Boot", which was adapted into one of the best war films of all time in 1981. The same "Laughing Sawfish" would be applied U-Boat Submarine captained by the character of "Der Alte" ("the Old Man") - himself inspired Lehmann-Willenbrock.
