Description
In collaboration with
JSDF.US
, we have faithfully produced this exceptional pattern based on an original Japanese defence contract manufactured bolt of fabric!
The Japanese "Jietai"
Type 2 Pattern, also known as "Japanese Flecktarn" in North America, was first adopted by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces in 1991 the older Type 1 or "Fang" pattern, which had been adopted in 1965. The design of the pattern takes after the German Flecktarn, in more green hues. The pattern itself features a light khaki background, with dots of light green, brown, and black superimposed in a semi-dense pattern. This makes it exceptionally versatile for both temperate and tropical environments, which is why it continues to see use in Japan after over three decades of service.
Originally produced in a unique material called vinylon, which is a synthetic fiber which has excellent thermoplastic properties. Vinylon was extremely popular after it's development in 1939 in Japan, and interestingly took hold in North Korea. To this day, it remains the most popular textile in North Korea, where it is sometimes referred to as "Juche" fabric. Over the years, the use of Vinylon has waned in Japan, and the current issue JSDF Type 2 and Type 3 uniforms utilize more modern ripstop fabrics. As such, we've reproduced this incredible camo pattern in our own excellent 50-50 polycotton ripstop material.
Features:
50-50 polycotton rip-stop water resistant construction in Japanese Jietai Type 2 pattern
"Slangvel" style shoulders, elbows for longevity in adverse conditions, double reinforced with solid 50-50 polycotton ripstop
Unique "Recce" shoulder pockets
Large 6.75" x 12" overall size
Sewn at a forward cant for ease of access
Double button flap secured for retention
Quick access down-to-up quarter zipper allowing pocket access without the excessive noise made by velcro hook/loop retention
Ventilated armpits for airflow
Fleece lined kangaroo pockets
Bungie secured cinching straps at hem and hood
Combat shirt style velcro cuff
