"Ahh, Bach - Radar, 1952" Take a run of a mill watch cap, and tack on a visor, and you've got the iconic Jeep Cap! First showing up as a widespread issue item in Feburary 1942 among US forces during the Second World War, it was designed to be worn under a standard M1 Steel Helmet. It's rather casual look and silouette breaking features made it a popular choice for US GIs whether at rest, or on a daring night time combat patrol. Despite official bans on wearing the caps as standalones, most notably among Patton's Third Army, they remained an extremely common piece of standalone kit for troops. Troops risked getting slapped or shot to protect their beloved jeep. In the post-war years, with the abundance of US and British war aid to Italy, the distinctive Jeep Caps found themselves in the clothing systems of the newly formed Italian Army (Esrceito Italiano). Given the Italian military's extensive training experience and heritage in Alpine warfare, their Jeep Caps naturally evolved to meet modern NATO standards. Changing from a full wool construction, the Italians simplified the original Second World War-era "starfish seam" design towards a simplified wool blend cap. The result is a piece of kit with some serious provenance, but ready to tackle modern cold weather warfare, and with a brim shaped to fit well under modern helmet systems. Overall, this all makes for an excellent cap, and at an incredible value for a genuine unissued piece of kit! Features:
