The standard French Army Central Camouflage Europe (CCE) woodland pattern was first adopted in 1991 to replace older olive drab F2 and TAP47 stocks. The color scheme drew heavy inspiration from the Fontainebleau Forest (the "forest of heather"), a historic woodland area traditionally owned by the monarchs of France, and later turned into one of the world's first nature preserves. The quality of the woodland, largely untouched since the 17th century when Louis XIV replanted it, provided a rich backdrop for French researchers developing the pattern. The thicker horizontal medium green and brown elements distinguish it from the contemporary US M81 woodland pattern, giving it "thicker" look overall. It has stood the test of time, remaining in service into the early 2020s as the current standard issue camouflage pattern of the French Army, including the members of their legendary Foreign Legion.

These short jackets are a variation of the standard F2 shirts issued, with a shorter hem for duty belt/webbing compatibility. It includes the standard double zipper pockets and velcro rank paneling of F2 CCE variant shirts as issued by the French Army.
