"CURRAHEE!""E" Company (Easy), of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne, were the legendary paratroops featured in Stephen Ambrose's' "Band of Brothers" book and the HBO miniseries adaptation. Formed in 1942 for service in the Second World War, the unit trained at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, running up and down the iconic 3-mile "Currahee" hill as part of their intensive physical regime. The unit famously participated in Operation Overlord on D-Day, 6 June 1944 as part of the overall Allied airborne effort. The unit would continue to serve throughout the European Theatre of Operations through Normandy, Holland, Belgium and Germany. The unit was disbanded shortly after the war's conclusion in November 1945, but reactivated as a training unit which today is perpetuated by Alpha "Easy" Company, 2-506th Infantry, of the modern United States Army.
At the beginning of the war, "Easy" Company carried a uniquely "Airborne" infantry guidon at official functions and marches. The unit carried this guidon during their famous time at Camp Toccoa. By late 1944, Airborne guidons had changed to the standard infantry "crossed rifles" motif, now carried by all airborne troops, making the "parachute" variation relatively rare, but distinctive of "Easy" Company during most of their operational existence. This sticker features this unique guidon, with the typically blank space filled by the distinctive olive drab of the US Army, issued out in the immediate aftermath of 6 June 1944.
Pay tribute to one of the finest fighting formations ever raised, the legendary Band of Brothers of Easy Company!
