Description

Faithful reproduction Aertex shirts, as issued during the Second World War to members of British and Commonwealth Forces during early war campaigns in the Far East and North Africa, and the arduous slog up the Italian peninsula.

These shirts were first issued in the early 1940s to replace older khaki-drill cotton uniforms for British and Commonwealth troops stationed in tropical locales. The use of the lightweight, and uniquely woven Aertex cotton material was a significant upgrade from the previous generation of heavier cotton khaki uniforms. The distinctive warp and weft of the fabric allowed for more breathability, with the fabric acting as a barrier that trapped cold air. The texture of the fabric resulted in a garment that was soft and somewhat mesh-like, but still very durable.

The nomenclature for these shirts was anything but standardized given the large number of wartime manufacturers. However, we have designated this reproduction as a Pattern 1941 (P-41), as we have based off original examples with the assistance of some advanced British militaria collectors.
