Description

The 1st Free French Division originated from the first Free French forces to rally under General de Gaulle after the Fall of France in 1940. Formed from men from the French mainland, the French Foreign Legion and colonial troops, the unit existed under different monikers as it fought in the Middle East and North Africa. While fighting as the 1st Independent Free French Brigade in North Africa, the unit distinguished itself during the hard fighting at Bir Hakeim and El Alamein in 1942. The unit was final reorganized as the 1st Free French Division just prior to the Tunisia campaign in 1943. From there the unit continued to serve with distinction through Italy and Southern France until the end of the war.

The patch features the insignia of the division, with a distinctive Cross of Lorraine superimposed onto a blue-red diamond.

Produced in the standard 2 x 1.5" size with hook velcro backing.
